Comments on "Sikh-Hindu Conflict in Indian History" – Dr Awatar Singh Sekhon (Machaki)

Comments on "Sikh-Hindu Conflict in Indian History" –
Dr Awatar Singh Sekhon (Machaki)
Sir VT Rajshekar
Editor in Chief
Dalit Voice
Mangalore

My dear older brother Sir Rajshekar,
Good day Sir!
First, I am glad your health is on the mending side after changing your headquarters to Mangalore. May the Khudawand Bakhshinda keeps you healthy and cheerful.
As I had informed you that I would not be attending the Annual Meeting, London Institute of South Asia and I missed the opportunity to meeting with you. I am sure in the next issue of Dalit Voice, you publish briefs of important presentations on the topic "Terrorism in Perspective".
I received the July 1 - 15 July, 2011, of Dalit Voice, Vol 30, No. 10. In general and as usual, I found the issue highly informative.
I am thankful to Kaur Singh that he wrote a beautiful article, published on pp 20-21. I would like to congratulate him that he wrote extremely nicely, with the exception of defining the meaning of 'Khalistan' for the Sikh Nation, PUNJAB. It is not Mr Singh's mistake. Rather, the 'Brahmins-Hindus writers deliberately misinterpreting the meaning of the word. Next, the shallow knowledge of our 'jathedars' and 'Brahmins-Hindus' democracy (demoncracy) alias alleged Indian democracy's Punjabi academics have been playing their worst role to distort the PUNJABI language (reading, writing and mixing Hindi words in the Sikhs' mother tongue, PUNJABI, script Gurmukhi, which is highly unacceptable.
Yes, I have been discussing about the meaning of the word 'Khalistan'. The word is the combination of two words. The first is 'Khalsa' which means 'Sovereign'. The word has its origin in the 'Arabic' language. Second word is 'Stan', which means the 'Land'. When Khalsa and Land are combined, it makes 'Khalistan', i. e., Khalsa + Stan means 'Khalistan'. The first use of the word 'Khalistan' was made by Dr (Bhai) Vir Singh Bhatti of Ludhiana district of Punjab in 1940. Dr Bhatti produced a pumphlet (a hand out) to let the British administrator know the Sikhs would like to get back their Sikh Homeland/Sikh Raj/Punjab, the 'First Sovereign and Secular' state of South Asia, ruled by Monarch Ranjit Singh, 1799 to 14th March, 1849.
As you know my dear older brother, the 'Brahmins-Hindus, including Dogras' have never been friendly to the Sikhs. This animosity of the 'Brahmins-Hindus, including Dogras' turned their deceits, and their weakness for ever, as far as the Sikhs are concerned.
Mr dear older brother, I am sending you two more messages separately, relating to the prevailing South Asia situation. Once again, congratulations to Sardar Kaur Singh for writing his beautiful article.

With best wishes and warmest regards to you.
Your younger brother,
Awatar Singh Sekhon (Machaki)

MEMORANDUM SUBMITTED BY THE KASHMIRIS AND THE SIKHS

MEMORANDUM SUBMITTED
BY THE KASHMIRIS AND THE SIKHS

The Consulate General of India
365 Bloor Street (East), 7th Floor
Toronto, ON
M4W 3L4
COMMEMORATION OF OCTOBER 27 AS “BLACKDAY BY THE INTERNATIONALLY DISPUTED AREAS OF JAMMU AND KASHMIR (IDA: JK) & THE SIKH NATION, PUNJAB KHALISTAN”
This is with regard to the October 27, 1947, the Black day when the Indian forces, against the wishes of the citizens of the IDA:  JK, forcefully captured and occupied the territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Consequently, on behalf of Friend of Kashmir, we would like to draw attention of the international community to the grave humanitarian crisis in the IDA: JK (occupied by the Indian administration, along with the occupation of The Sikh Nation, Punjab, 'robbed' by the 'Brahmins-Hindus' Congress Party in the late morning hours of 15th August, 1947. Since the illegal occupation, October 27, 1947 it is considered as the Black day by the citizens of the IDAJK:  the oldest, unresolved, international disputes in the world, as an agenda item of the United Nations (UN). With the passage of time, instead of finding out the will and aspirations of the  IDA:JK and The Sikh Nation, PUNJAB, through the plebiscites, India kept on cementing its illegal occupation through a fraudulent accession and military occupation, which changed this paradise on earth into a bleeding valley of Kashmir. Today, the land is referred to as the land of atrocities, brutalities and sufferings around the world. We would like to let the world know that we are determined to live freely and not under the occupation of the Indian administration as "we are not a part of India, never have been and would never be." Consequently, a tyrant unresolved dispute has resulted in immense gross human rights abuses of inhabitants of IDA: JK and The Sikh Nation, PUNJAB.
Recently, the Indian administration blessed the ISA: JK with the 'Brahmins-Hindus' Human Rights Commission, which announced 2,730 bodies have been found in unmarked graves in Kashmir. This officially confirms earlier findings by the international human rights groups. Security forces once claimed any such graves were those of unidentified militants (freedom fighters) killed in military encounters. The commission says 574 bodies have already been identified, however, as those of local villagers, and DNA tests will expose many more. This was genocide as outlined by the United Nations resolution, “genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethical, racial or religious group, as such”; (i) deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part; (ii) killing members of the group; (iii) causing serious bodily or mental harm to the group; (iv) the deliberate and systematic destruction and elimination  of the group.
A government commission in IDA: JK has called for a fresh probe into the alleged mass rapes in two remote villages by Indian army personnel twenty years ago, a report said Saturday. Kashmir's State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has recommended that the government (tyrant Indian administration) set up a special team to re investigate the alleged mass gang rape of at least 31 women by Indian army personnel in 1991. In other words, it is like to "re-invent wheel." The women from the villages of Kunan and Poshpora in northern Kupwara district had claimed that these victims had been gang raped by soldiers during the night of February 23-24 in 1991, at the peak of the insurgency that erupted in 1989.
For instance, on the legal aspects of forcible occupation, Article 7 of the Indian Independence Act and Article 25, very clearly states that from 15th August 1947, “the suzerainty of His Majesty over the Indian states lapse and with it lapses all treaties and agreements enforce at the date of the passing of this Act between His Majesty and the rulers of the newly born Indian Union.” Consequent, all powers and functions, which were to be exercised by the British India Empire, in relation to the Princely States, also ceased. All agreements of British India Empire and princely states also lapsed on 15th of August 1947, following handing over executive political power to the leaders of the Indian Congress Party, then led by the Brahmins-Hindus. Since the state of Jammu and Kashmir was a Princely State with a special autonomous status, therefore, it can be very conveniently said, that on 15th day of August 1947, the Maharaja Sir Hari Singh was not the permissible ruler of the state of Jammu and Kashmir as all his treaties with British India Empire lapsed by handing over the political power. Once he (Hari Singh) was not a ruler of the state, he had no right to sign the accession document, had he signed that at all.
Additionally, the IDA: JK shares 5% of its border with the 'Brahmins-Hindus' India and Kashmir has a majority of Muslim population (more than 80%). As such, there are no similarities between the Muslims and Hindus. The latter is "neither a religion nor a culture," according to several Hindu and non-Hindu academics whereas, the followers of Islam (Muslims) are the world's third largest religion. Further, for a cow-worshipper the animal is sacred and the Muslims are 'meat-eaters, including the cow'. Muslims as against Hindus are strictly prohibited. Since 27th October, 1947 and since the deployment of the 'Brahmins-Hindus' demoncracy/democracy's armed forces, it was illegal in the State of Kashmir. Instead of nurturing the citizens of the IDA: JK, they are kept under subjugation and have been committing severe and inhuman crimes, pogroms, massacre, fake-encounter killings, rapes, dehumanization and humiliations. To say the least, the 'Brahmins-Hindus' armed forces have failed to win the hearts and minds of the citizens of the ISA: JK.
India territory of the IDA: JK and Pakistan 'agreed' to allow the people of Jammu and Kashmir to decide their future in a UN supervised plebiscite. India has since gone back on that agreement. Clearly, it has done so because of certainty that the people of Jammu and Kashmir would vote against India. By going back on this ‘undertaking of the UN: SC resolution of 1948’, India has conceded that the people do not want to stay with India.
Last but not the least, in order to stop further bloodshed, India Government is asked, through Honorable Consulate General, Toronto, to vacate the IDA:JK to preserve peace, It must respect the aspirations of the citizens of the IDA:JK and the withdrawal of its army from the illegally occupied.

"Diwali-Diwala" alias Bandi-Chhor by the turbaned 'Brahmins-Hindus' in 'The Sikh Identity"

"Diwali-Diwala" alias Bandi-Chhor
by the turbaned 'Brahmins-Hindus' in 'The Sikh Identity"

Sardar Kalvinder Singh ji,
Waheguru ji ka Khalsa,Waheguru ji ki Fateh!

Is there any relationship between Guru Hargobind Sahib ji were released from the Gwalior jail and the Brahmins-Hindus-Traders' "Dewali-Diwala" day and the Sikhs celebrating their enemies' Diwali-Diwala day as the "Bandi-Chhor day' at the Darbar Sahib Complex, Amritsar, and the whole Sikh world?
Please consider it very seriously and do not fall in the trap of the Sikhs' enemies and saying that the Sikhs' celebrate their 'Bandi-Chhor' day on the 'Diwali-Diwala' day of their enemies, i. e., Hindus-Brahmins-Traders.
Has there been any Historical evidence from the Sikhs' Historical point of view that the "Bandi0Chhor' day is celebrated on the 'Hindus-Brahmins' "Diwali-Diwala" day?
Would you consider seriously that the "Hindus and their -ism is "Netither a religion nor a Culture", according to well knows academics; whereas, the Sikh Religion is the 5th largest religion of the world?
Would you find any evidence in Guru Granth Granth Sahib about the "Bandi-Chhor divas", which is related to the "Diwali-Diwala" day of the "Hindus-Brahmins-Traders" and advertised by the cohorts of Hanera (Prakash/Darkness) Sinh Badal, Badal himself and his "joe boys and joe-girls?"
Would you find out that how much Guru Khalsa Panth's money is spent on the Hindus' Diwali-Diwala days, simply to become copy-cat of the 'Brahmins-Hindus-Traders'?
Above all, you are requested to think the repercussions of your "Diwali-Dila" day's Mubarakvad
This is all against the philosophy of the Sikh Gurus' teachings, inscribed in Guru Granth Sahib and the Guru Khalsa Panth.

Your reply will be appreciated.
Your brother,
Awatar Singh Sekhon (Machaki)

Council of Khalistan Convention Very Successful

Council of Khalistan Convention Very Successful

WASHINGTON, D.C., October 24, 2011 –A large number of Sikhs converged on the Gurdwara Sahib in Glen Rock, New Jersey to attend the Council of Khalistan’s 24th annual convention, which was held October 8 and 9. The convention was very successful. The convention marked the 24th anniversary of Khalistan's declaration of independence, which occurred on October 7, 1987, and the formation of the Council of Khalistan at that time to serve as the government pro tempore of Khalistan and lead the struggle for Khalistan's freedom.
Sikhs in attendance listened to various speakers and passed a resolution to liberate Khalistan. They called for unity among Sikh organizations. Dr. Gurmit Singh Aulakh, President of the Council of Khalistan, spoke on the progress the Council has made in the past year. Slogans of “Khalistan Zindabad” were raised to an enthusiastic response. The delegates passed a resolution for the liberation of Khalistan. They called for a full-time, staffed Council of Khalsitan office and more activity in the U.S. Congress. Delegates from the Sikh Cultural Society of New York suggested that every Gurdwara should contribute on a regular basis and Sardar Harbans Singh Dhillon of the Sikh Cultural Society accepted the responsibility of raising funds during Dr. Aulakh’s visit there.
Dr. Aulakh reported that the Council of Khalistan has maintained its website, set up a Facebook page to better reach the Sikh community, exposed the atrocities against the Sikh Nation, called for the establishment of a Guru Arjun Dev Medial College at Tarn Taran, and engaged in other activities on behalf of the Sikh Nation. Dr. Aulakh called for the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee to open education centers for computers, medical and engineering schools, and sports centers to provide opportunities for young Sikhs.
“I would like to thank everyone who helped to make the convention a success,” said Dr. Aulakh. “I would especially like to thank the Managing Committee of the Glen Rock Gurdwara, especially Sardar Charan Singh Kalsi, Vice President of the Gurdwara, and the president of the Gurdwara for their financial support. I would also like to thank Dr. Ranbir Singh Bhalla, Sardar Buta Singh Kharaud of the Akali Dal (Amritsar), Sardar Pritam Singh Grewal, and Sardar Amarjit Singh Grewal and their families. I would also like to thank Sardar Jas Paul Singh and Sardar Manpaul Singh for their support and Mrs. Kalsi for her hospitality,” Dr. Aulakh said. “This convention has been a significant step forward for the cause of freedom for Khalistan,” said Dr. Aulakh. “A free Khalistan is the only way to end the repression of the Sikhs and allow the Sikh Nation to live in freedom, peace, security, dignity, and prosperity,” he said. He called for courses on Sikhism in American universities so that the Sikh religion will be better understood in the West.
The Indian government has murdered over a million Sikhs since 1982. This aligns with a threat made by the former Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Balram Jakhar, who said, "If we have to kill a million Sikhs to preserve our territorial integrity, so be it." According to Sardar Inderjit Singh Jaijee and Bibi Baljit Kaur Gill of the Movement Against State Repression (MASR), India would have murdered 10 times as many Sikhs as it did kill had the Sikhs outside India not spoken up. India has also killed more than 300,000 Christians in Nagaland, over 100,000 Muslims in Kashmir as well as 2,000 to 5,000 in Gujarat , tens of thousands of Christians and Muslims throughout the country, and tens of thousands of Assamese, Bodos, Dalits, Manipuris, Tamils, and other minorities. A report by the Movement Against State Repression (MASR) quotes the Punjab Civil Magistracy as writing “if we add up the figures of the last few years the number of innocent persons killed would run into lakhs [hundreds of thousands.]” The Indian Supreme Court called the Indian government's murders of Sikhs “worse than a genocide.”
Sikhs are considered slaves in India. Atrocities against Sikhs go unpunished. Tytler, HKL Bhagat, Sujjan Kumar, Kamal Nath, and many others have been proven guilty of killing thousands of Sikhs, yet no action has been taken against them. Sikhs have been denied a Sikh Marriage Act. Instead, India has forced Sikhs to marry under the Hindu Marriage Act. Sikh farmers have been forced to buy supplies at exorbitant prices and sell their crops at prices below market rates, leading to many suicides. For Sikh youth in India, there is a lack of jobs, so they are cutting their hair and going away from the Sikh religion. All of this is part of India’s plan to eliminate the Sikh religion, Dr. Aulakh said.
“Kosovo got its freedom from Serbia and Montenegro, which has less than a million people, has become independent,” said Dr. Aulakh. “Khalistan's freedom is not far away.” History shows that
multinational states such as India are doomed to failure. Countries like Austria-Hungary, India’s longtime friend the Soviet Union, Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia, and others prove this point. India is not one country; it is a polyglot like those countries, thrown together for the convenience of the British colonialists. It is doomed to break up as they did. The Central Intelligence Agency predicted that India will disintegrate by 2015. “We hope that India’s breakup will be peaceful like Czechoslovakia’s, not violent like Yugoslavia’s,” Dr. Aulakh said. “Now it is the time for the Sikh Nation of Khalistan to reclaim its independence.” As former Jathedar of the Akal Takht Professor Darshan Singh said, “If a Sikh is not a Khalistani, he is not a Sikh.”

Congratulations to Sikh Nation on Guru Nanak’s 542nd Birthday

Congratulations to Sikh Nation on Guru Nanak’s 542nd Birthday

WASHINGTON, D.C., October 24, 2011 –November 10 marks the 542nd Parkash Ustau (birthday) of Guru Nanak, who founded the Sikh religion.  Sikhs from all over the world will gather in Nankana Sahib, now in Pakistan, to celebrate.  Last year, over 15,000 Sikhs attended the celebration, including 3,000 from India.  Even more are expected this year.  If the India-Pakistan border at Wagah were open, hundreds of thousands of Sikhs from Punjab would  come.  But that can only happen when the Sikh Nation frees Khalistan, the Sikh homeland that declared its independence on October 7, 1987.
Guru Nanak spoke out against repression.  He called Babar (invader from Afghanistan) jabir (tyrant) and accused him of forcibly taking people’s wealth.  Guru Nanak was even imprisoned.
The Sikh Nation is required to fight repression, injustice, and discrimination.  The Gurus did it.  They gave their lives for the freedom of others.  Guru Teg Bahadur was beheaded in Delhi to stop the forcible conversion of Kashmiri Pandits (Brahmins) to Islam.
Sikhs have been persecuted by the Indian regime.  According to former Member of Parliament Simranjit Singh Mann, the Indian government has murdered over a million Sikhs since 1982. The Indian Supreme Court called the Indian government's murders of Sikhs “worse than a genocide.”
Atrocities against Sikhs go unpunished.  Tytler, HKL Bhagat, Sujjan Kumar, Kamal Nath, and many others have been proven guilty of killing thousands of Sikhs, yet no action has been taken against them.  A report issued by the Movement Against State Repression (MASR) shows that India admitted that it held 52,268 political prisoners under the repressive “Terrorist and Disruptive Activities Act” (TADA) even though it expired in 1995. Many have been in illegal custody since 1984.
“Democratic” India continues to arrest people for engaging in free speech.  On February 27 in Jalandhar, former Member of Parliament Sardar Atinder Pal Singh, President of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Khalistani), was arrested along with four other members of his party while putting up banners supporting Khalistan.  He was putting up the banners in preparation for a press conference about Khalistan.  In 2009, Sardar Daljit Singh Bittu, President of the Akali Dal (Panch Pardhani), was arrested for displaying pictures of Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale and speaking out in support of an independent Khalistan.  Two leading Sikh activists were arrested for peacefully protesting the construction of a statue to honor Beant Singh, the late Chief Minister who presided over the murder of tens of thousands of Sikhs.
“Kosovo got its freedom from Serbia and Montenegro, which has less than a million people, has become independent,” said Dr. Aulakh.  “Khalistan's freedom is not far away.” The Sikhs outside Punjab are helping our Sikh brothers and sisters in Punjab regain their freedom.  The Sikh diaspora has  been exposing the genocide against Sikhs through the U.S. Congress and through countries such as Great Britain, Canada, Germany, Belgium, and others.
History shows that multinational states such as India are doomed to failure.
“Now it is the time for the Sikh Nation of Khalistan to reclaim its independence,” Dr. Aulakh said.  “As Professor Darshan Singh, a former Jathedar of the Akal Takht, said, ‘If a Sikh is not a Khalistani, he is not a Sikh’,” Dr. Aulakh noted. “Two other Jathedars, Bhai Ranjit Singh and Sardar Joginder Singh Vedanti, have taken the same position.  The Sikh Nation should listen to these Jathedars,” he said.  “The time has come to free Khalistan.”

THE MOVEMENT FOR LIBERATION OF KHALISTAN IS NOT A SUDDEN SPONTANEOUS REACTION; IN FACT IT IS A RESTORATION OF A LOST SOVEREIGNTY: SPOKESMAN, KASHMIR DIASPORA ALLIANCE

THE MOVEMENT FOR LIBERATION OF KHALISTAN
IS NOT A SUDDEN SPONTANEOUS REACTION;
IN FACT IT IS A RESTORATION OF A LOST SOVEREIGNTY:
SPOKESMAN, KASHMIR DIASPORA ALLIANCE

Indian authorities must revisit their book of records because Punjab Khalistan was never a part of India. It is highly unfortunate the happening the ‘Sikh Nation has gone through. The movement for the liberation of Khalistan is not a spontaneous one and the Sikhs’ struggle for sovereignty, Independence  and political power has been ongoing, by peaceful means, since 14th March, 1849. This was the day when the ‘First Sovereign and Secular’ Sikh nation, Punjab, was lost to the British Empire’s forces. Initially a Sikh General named Banda Singh Bahadar established the 'first' Sikh Raj, the Sikh State, which lasted for about eight years. Following this, a sovereign and secular Sikh Nation existed for 50-year as described below under monarch Ranjit Singh. The rein of monarch Ranjit Singh, 1799 to 14th March, 1849 as the Punjab was the "First Sovereign and Secular Nation" of South Asia, what at the moment is called the 'Brahmins-Hindus' democracy, since 15th August, 1947. Punjab of the Sikhs was forcibly occupied right after the British India Empire gave freedom to the ‘Brahmins-Hindus leadership by the agent of the British Empire in Delhi in the morning hours of 15th August, 1947.
For instance, the three princely head of States: Faridkot in Punjab, Bikaner in Rajasthan and Nawab of Hyderabad had not signed any document of accession to India. These states included the princely State of Patiala of Punjab which had been forced to join India at gunpoint. This cannot be called accession to India in any case.  It is very astonishing that India or as it is being called  incredible India, progressing power of South Asia, a peace-loving Indian democracy by President Obama of the United States, CNN and BBC networks, hour after hour in their international newscasts in Europe in particular and internationally all along, has been on a killing spree ofMuslims of the Indian-occupied Jammu and Kashmir area, also called the Internationally Disputed Areas of Jammu and Kashmir (IDA:JK) since 15th August, 1947 and the Sikhs of PUNJAB since 1978 when 13 Sikhs were massacred by the Punjab and Indian law-enforcing forces. As such, the 'Brahmins-Hindus administrations' have been engaged in racial discrimination, massacres and genocides in the IDA:JK and secondly in Khalistan which has been illegally occupied by the Indian government since August 15, 1947. In fact, this discrimination is the 'order of the day' of the 'Brahmins-Hindus' administrations, since 15th August, 1947.
Make no mistake, India is sitting on the ‘tip of a volcano’, which could erupt at any time. Movements going on for sovereignty in the IDA:JK,Khalistan, Assam and its 8- sisters, Tamils, Christians, forcible conversion and additional violations like torture, fake encounters, rapes, humiliation, dehumanization, political, religious rights, and heavy handedness by the law-enforcing forces could destroy the so-called incredible democracy of our world. India which is unable to feed its own people, that is, more than 76% of its population of more than 1.2 billion goes to sleep hungry every night, seven days a week and 365 days a year.
Last but not least, the struggle of the Sikhs for sovereignty and independence is going on since 14th March,1849 and will continue until the Indian army leaves Khalistan.

Haqqanis, US and Pakistan
Will they cross the Rubicon?

Haqqanis, US and Pakistan
Will they cross the Rubicon?
by D. Suba Chandran
The Tribune 27.9.2011

AFTER the recent Kabul attack by the Haqqani network, there were two damning testimonies by Admiral Mike Mullen, the outgoing Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Mr Leon Panetta, the American Defence Secretary, openly accusing Pakistan and its ISI for using the Haqqani network as a proxy. While this resulted in multiple responses from the political and military leadership of Pakistan, its Foreign Minister threatened the US that Washington would lose Pakistan as an ally. How far will the US and Pakistan go in converting their threats into reality? Can the US and Pakistan afford to break off the ties at this juncture? More importantly, what will happen if both decide to cross the Rubicon and there is a total rupture in the US-Pakistan relations?
First, a short note on the nature of threats. In the last few months, especially after the Abbottabad raid, the US has been conveying a tough message to Pakistan at multiple forums, putting pressure on the latter to stop aiding the Haqqani network, and asking Islamabad to do more in controlling the terrorist groups operating from within its soil. From Mrs Hillary Clinton to Mr Leon Panetta, there have been numerous statements from the American leadership emphasising that Pakistan must keep away from the Haqqani network.
The brazen attack on the American Embassy in Kabul by the Haqqani network seems to have escalated the US responses - from pressurising Pakistan to threatening with action. The testimonies of Admiral Mullen and Defence Secretary Panetta make this change crystal clear. Admiral Mullen, in his testimony before the Congress Armed Forces Committee have been quoted testifying, “with the ISI support, Haqqani operatives planned and conducted that truck bomb attack, as well as the assault on our embassy,” and “the Haqqani network acts as a veritable arm of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence agency.”
In response, while the Prime Minister of Pakistan and his Interior Minister came with the usual rhetoric that Pakistan wants good relationship with everyone and does not allow its soil to be used by terrorists, General Kayani and the Foreign Minister made nuanced statements. The General in his response said, ““Admiral Mullen knows fully well which all countries are in contact with the Haqqanis,” and “singling out Pakistan is neither fair nor productive.”
Mrs Hina Rabbani Khar, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, issued an explicit threat that if the US continued with such statements against Islamabad, “you will lose an ally.”
The second part of General Kayani’s response is significant - where he said singling out Pakistan for being in contact with the Haqqanis is neither fair nor productive. What does this mean? Does this mean that, besides Pakistan, there are other countries which are in contact with the Haqqanis? Does this include the US as well? And does Admiral Mullen know this, as General Kayani is hinting?
It appears that both Pakistan and the US have been courting the Haqqanis, perhaps with different objectives and as a part of different strategies. While Pakistan and the ISI may be using the Haqqani network as a “proxy” and a “veritable arm”, what has been the American strategy towards the Haqqanis? Were they not a part of the moderate Taliban until they immoderately targeted the US interests in Afghanistan?
In terms of Pakistan’s counter-threats, while General Kayani has said that singling out Pakistan for being in touch with the Haqqanis would be counterproductive, Khar has said the US may lose an ally. If one has to analyse the meaning of these two threats, it could be interpreted as Islamabad’s readiness to cut the relationship with the US and pursue its own strategic interests in Afghanistan.
The second question: Can the US and Pakistan afford to cross the Rubicon and rupture the ties? The US has done that in the past. After working closely with Pakistan’s military and its ISI during the 1980s, against the Soviet troops, Washington did cut the relationship with Islamabad. Can they afford to do so now? The American strategic community is clearly divided on this issue on whether the US would continue its relationship with Pakistan or not. Those who want to break the relationship argue that despite the investment of billions of dollars in Pakistan since 2001, Islamabad has not helped the American cause in Afghanistan, or the war on terrorism. The hiding of Osama bin Laden in Abbottabad close to a military installation is seen as a Pakistani collusion against American interests.
Those who argue against the rupture consider the nuclear assets of Pakistan and the rising radical threat as a major reason demanding a continuous interaction with Islamabad. The Al-Qaeda network and the stability of Afghanistan demand a substantial presence of the US even after 2014. This section also fears that Pakistan will become a failed state with the jihadi upper hand along with nuclear weapons. This is a nightmare scenario for the US.
On the other hand, Pakistan is also divided, though with the majority itching to break the ties with the US. This section considers that Pakistan is fighting the American war at a huge cost, and is afraid that the US would walk away or worse turn against Pakistan after 2014. So, they ask: Why wait until 2014 to break the ties with the US? The other section, though a minority, fears that such a rupture will not augur well for Pakistan’s democracy as the military, the ISI and, worse, the radical forces will become supreme and take Pakistan in a suicidal trajectory. This section also fears that in case there is a complete rupture of relations between the US and Pakistan, it would not only affect the country’s economy but also lead to Washington siding with New Delhi.
It appears that neither Pakistan nor the US can easily afford to break off their ties that easily. Both will have to pay a heavy price.
Finally, the hypothetical question: What if the US and Pakistan finally cross the Rubicon and break off their relations? The US may cut off its aid to Islamabad which has been in billions of dollars in the last decade, and more importantly, pressurise Pakistan at international forums. The US may also have to live in the perpetual fear of Pakistan’s nuclear assets falling into wrong hands. What are the US options in that case? Can the US expand its drone attacks, or place its boots on the ground in Pakistan? Will the American forces risk an open confrontation with Pakistan’s military? Unlikely.
What would Islamabad do? While the majority within Pakistan expects that their all-weather friend - China — would come to their rescue, the crucial question would be: What is Beijing’s game plan vis-à-vis Pakistan? While China has substantially invested in infrastructure projects within Pakistan, from Gwadar to the Kunjerab Pass, it is unlikely that Beijing will provide substantial aid as Pakistan got from the Americans.
Beijing is also likely to do cost-benefit analysis. Though the Pakistanis may consider their relationship with China as higher than the Himalayas and deeper than the oceans, one is not sure whether the Chinese also feel the same way. Certainly, the Chinese officials in Xinjiang, which shares the border with Gilgit-Baltistan, do not perceive so. While Beijing may not want Pakistan to end up as a failed state, it is unlikely to underwrite Islamabad’s existential problems.
So, what would Pakistan do, especially its military, the ISI and the jihadis, once the relationship with the US is ruptured? What will they do in Afghanistan? Will they turn their ire against the US, or against their ever-ready scapegoat - India? More than the US, should New Delhi not be worried about the breakup of the ties between Washington and its “major” non-NATO ally?

The Shiromani Akali Dal(Amritsar) will have to think but will be the future of the Sikh’s if the Americans break their relationship with Pakistan. Our party has always supported American foreign policy with its rich content of democracy and protection of human rights, but we failed to support the 123 Nuclear agreement with THIS (Theocratic Hindu Indian State) as THIS(Theocratic Hindu Indian State)  has committed the genocide of the Sikhs with impunity and has not signed the NPT. If America loses its relationship with Pakistan and ties up with THIS(Theocratic Hindu Indian State), then we are afraid the Sikhs would not be able to support  a strategic alliance between US and THIS (Theocratic Hindu Indian State). For that matter the Kashmiris’ and the various peoples living in the North-East and West Bengal will either. The Tamils in the South will also not support such a tie up with the racist Aryan Hindu, theocratic state.-
