Rape and killing of women in India

Rape and killing of women in India

The British Sikh community and others once again came together to express their solidarity with the family of the Delhi gang-rape victim who died.

Yesterday's candle lit vigil held in Victoria Square Birmingham City Centre was a coming-together of a number of groups who wanted to express their grief and anger over what happened. It comes as five suspects are charged with murder, rape and kidnap, if found guilty they could face the death penalty, a sixth suspect will be tried as a juvenile.

The crime has sparked outrage across the World. There have been widespread protests in India following the death of the woman who was 23 and a medical student. Others have lit candles in her memory. She was attacked and raped on a bus in Delhi. It's been described as a harrowing and brutal assault.

For the last 28 years, successive Indian governments had given open immunity to those who perpetrated similar violent crimes against Sikh women, during the 1984 Sikh Genocide in India.

The silence of the administration, politicians and the justice system over the rape of women from the Sikh community in broad daylight during the 1984 genocide has resulted in perpetrators of those crimes not being brought to justice, resulting in a common attitude amongst people in India, that you will not be punished for rape.

The Indian Government needs to take urgent action and send out a clear message and make sure that other perpetrators of such crimes are brought to Justice. There are criminals amongst the politicians, police force and across the Indian Government who have committed such vile acts as rape and not been prosecuted for their crimes. Jagdish Tytler, Sajjan Kumar, Arun Nehru, Kamal Nath, KPS Gill and others are amongst those who should be prosecuted for their actions during and after the 1984 Sikh Genocide in India.

Please find attached the full list of criminals who should be prosecuted for their crimes during and after the 1984 Sikh Genocide in India. A candle lit vigil is held in November every year in Birmingham City Centre, in remembrance of the Sikhs who were killed during the 1984 Sikh Genocide.
